Only Lovers Left Alive

Most of the Hiddlestoners have heard about this movie, but there’s not much to be told, yet. There isn’t a lot of buzz about it, just off-the-cuff references in bigger interviews. No publicity stills beyond the one above, and the crew is being rather tight-lipped about it. It’s up to us, guys. We need to create the buzz about this movie. Blog about it, tweet about it, blast people on FB with the IMDb link, everything. Get people talking about it. So far, there’s only an official release date in Russia, set for 5 Dec of this year. Chances are high that it won’t be marketed as a major release, but rather be sent to art houses and indie theaters. Let’s let the powers that be know that we want this movie!!!

Only Lovers Left Alive is the story of Adam and Eve, two centuries-long vampire lovers. Adam is an underground musician who is depressed and disillusioned with human society. He is reunited with his long-time lover, Eve, seeking solace in her familiarity and comforting care. Their rekindled love affair is tested, however, by the arrival of Eve’s younger, wilder sister, Ava.

Taking the vampire genre into a direction it has lost over time, this movie brings back the Gothic romance to the monster movie, with intricate plots and deep emotional ties. While other recent vampires sparkle and brood over unending adolescence, Only Lovers takes a more mature approach, acknowledging the wisdom (and detachment) of the endless centuries of immortality.

For those not following my new blog, here’s the short version: I had a stroke. Tonight is the first time I’ve actually let myself feel this loss, this pain. I bottled it up to spare someone else’s feelings and now, months later, it all hit me like a ton of bricks. My heart is breaking all over again and the one person I could turn to for comfort is the very person I’ve tried to hide it from all this time. When you see this, and I know you will, I am sorry. I hid my pain from you because you made the right decision, and I didn’t want you to regret it like I do. And I do. With all my heart, I regret it. I wish I could go back in time and change that decision that we both made, but this is one of those things that just can’t be undone, and I have to live with that loss.
